May 16, 2024—Bridgeland High School junior Shawn Ray and Langham Creek High School sophomore Laine Yates earned individual state titles at the 2024 UIL Class 6A State Academic Meet, held May 13-15 at the University of Texas at Austin.

Ray placed first overall in Social Studies and Yates placed first overall in Ready Writing.

Langham Creek High School sophomore Laine Yates placed first overall in the Ready Writing competition at the UIL Academic State Meet. Yates was one of two CFISD students to earn individual state titles at the 2024 contest.

“Being a UIL state champion is an incredible accomplishment that is the culmination of a lot of hours of studying, practicing and hard work,” said Ryan Hennessey, UIL academics district coordinator. “These students and their coaches have accomplished something amazing.”

At UIL academic competitions, students and schools earn points by placing in different categories, which add up to an overall score. Multiple CFISD students and teams placed at this year’s state competition.

Cypress Ranch High School junior Hunter Payne placed fourth overall in the Informative Speaking competition at the UIL Academic State Meet, held May 13-15 at the University of Texas at Austin.
