Livestock Show and Sale generates more than $680,000 for projects

Cy-Fair High School senior Katie McCaslin had the Grand Champion Steer at the 30th Annual CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $25,000 to Jarrar & Company and Lone Star Chevrolet. 

Feb. 21, 2024—The 30th Annual CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, held Jan. 31-Feb.3 at the CFISD Exhibit Center, saw an incredible amount of generosity from the CFISD community through the live auction, with no exhibits in the last third of the sale selling for less than $1,000.

Official totals for this year’s sale raised more than $680,000. The premium sale (live auction) raised $410,950. The freezer sale (animals not placing high enough for the live auction) totaled $161,889. The agriculture mechanics and horticulture silent auction raised $25,489, and $3,776.50 was awarded through royalty scholarships and cash prizes. Monetary donations and t-shirt sales totaled $84,061.

Cypress Woods High School junior Katy Oetken had the Grand Champion Swine at the 30th Annual CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $15,000 to Conda Maze JRP LLC and Linder Feed. 

Prior to the premium sale, CFISD FFA teachers honored Denise Kubecka, former director of career and technical education, for her years of service to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and to the CFISD Livestock Show and Sale. A t-shirt quilt representing all 12 CFISD high school FFA chapters was presented to Kubecka.

In addition, the 30th Annual CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale was dedicated to Dr. Mark Henry, former superintendent of schools. Dr. Henry was honored via a video where he was presented with an honorary buckle.

Bridgeland High School senior Daylan Quinlan had the Grand Champion Turkey.

Bridgeland High School senior Daylan Quinlan had the Grand Champion Turkey at the 30th Annual CFISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale, which sold for $11,000 to Jarrar & Company Inc. 

“I am incredibly proud of the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts exhibited by our agriculture science teachers and students,” said Mark Williams, director of career and technical education. “Their commitment to excellence, manifested through countless long hours and hard work, has been instrumental in making the 30th Annual Livestock Show and Sale a resounding success. Their passion for agriculture and commitment to the livestock industry have not only showcased their skills, but also highlighted the invaluable contributions to our agricultural community. I hope to see everyone next February.”

The following Livestock Royalty representatives, chosen at the royalty contest, were onsite to assist with award presentations:

  • Show King – Joshua White from Cypress Springs FFA;
  • Show Queen – Corrine Fonte from Cypress Ranch FFA;
  • Mr. Show Teen – Xzavier Benson from Cy-Fair FFA;
  • Miss Show Teen – Sarah Krueger from Cypress Falls FFA; and
  • Top Hand (Sales) – Kate Brown from Cypress Woods FFA.
