Robotics teams succeed at state championship

Feb. 12, 2024—Robotics teams from four CFISD high schools competed in the VEX Robotics UIL Texas State Championship, held Feb. 7 at the Learner Support Center in Clear Creek ISD, placing among the top 25.
The “Over Under” style competition is played on a 12-by-12 square-foot field with two alliances—one red and one blue—composed of two teams each, competing in matches consisting of a 15-second autonomous period followed by a 1:45 driver-controlled period. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by Scoring triballs in goals and by elevating at the end of the match.
Team 16329C, “Springles,” from Cypress Ridge High School placed 10th with a record of 4-3-0. Team members are Jimmy Montealvo, Thomas Elliot and Hongji Shi. The team adviser is Jessie Vo. Cypress Ridge’s other competing team, 16329A, “Fire,” placed 20th with a record of 4-3-0. Team members are Jonathan Arnold, Nicholas Vidal and Abdelrahman Elsafdi.

Additionally, 42 robotics teams from 10 CFISD high schools competed in the CFISD High School Invitational, held Feb. 8 at the Berry Center.
